Sensei Gurnoor Pooni

I started training with Arashi-Do Karate in the spring of 2016 when I was nine. Ever since then, I fell in love with the variety of skills we learn, including sparring and self-defense. Pushing myself to train has helped me realize my strengths and weaknesses, as well as what I want to get better at and work on.

I started helping as and assistant instructor in the beginner and intermediate kids’ classes in July of 2021. I enjoyed interacting with students, and it also helped me build confidence when speaking. Spending time beside experienced teachers, as well as students, has been a learning experience for me that will not just be helpful in classes, but outside the dojo as well.

I received my black belt when I was sixteen in December of 2023. I felt overjoyed not just for the title, but also for the responsibility that came with being a Sensei. Becoming an assistant instructor helped me realize that it isn’t just all about personal growth and learning; it is also about sharing that expertise and watching growth in others. Seeing how I can help someone learn and grow in the same way I did, brings me confidence and joy. Watching how students get excited to learn something new and achieve something great, gives me the motivation to continue on this path and try my best every time!
