Monitor Owen Dahl

Owen Dahl

I started learning martial arts in the mid nineties with Kung fu for about six months which started an
interest in the arts. I moved on to boxing in Drayton Valley for a year while working in the oilfield.

When I moved back to Edmonton in early 2001, I started in Muay Thai at Arashi-Do Martial Arts when
there was only one school in Edmonton under Kru Chris Bonde, and hold a yellow prajied level. I
then met my future Jiu Jitsu professors, Mike Yackulic and Neil Armstrong, and started the Jiu Jitsu
program with professor Mike Yackulic in 2002 training off and on due to working in and out of town
and starting a family.

I currently hold a purple belt in BJJ and am preparing to go for my brown belt in the fall of 2022. I am
a living example of rolling until the belt turns black. I have enjoyed the journey of Jiu Jitsu and it has
been a large part of my life. Competing at tournaments and travelling to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil to
train and compete with Mestre Sylvio Behring are the highlights of my training. It is about being a
better me today than I was yesterday and martial arts helps me achieve this. I enjoy the company of
other people who are on the same path as myself and I love helping where I can along the way.

In 2019 I started the process of working for a red bar which is the instructor designation in Jiu Jitsu.
It is a lot of fun helping kids and beginners take their first steps on their very own journey! If you are
reading this, I hope to meet you on the mats!
