I began training with Arashi Do West in 2012, in the Muay Thai Women’s Program. My interest in martial arts was initially sparked when watching my son participate in the Little Dragon’s Karate Classes. Since then, I have continued to train in the Muay Thai program under Sensei Rem outside of my career as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner at the Stollery Children’s Hospital.
I enjoy learning the various techniques, combinations and the physical challenges of the sport itself. Currently, in addition to continued training, I am helping in the Tiny Thaigers (Muay Thai, 4-7 years) classes. This allows me to share my passion for teaching and engage with the students, practicing a sport that I enjoy. It also makes me more aware of my technique.
It is so much fun to watch the children become more confident in their abilities, tackle and master the techniques they are taught and be able to encourage them along the way. As an added bonus, my son and I now have something in common that we do together in the family Muay Thai class.
